FEAR
(translated by
Karin Pečnikar)
I am afraid
of everything big:
cliffs
and bulldogs,
storms
and skyscrapers.
I am afraid
of the scorching sun –
it
evaporates the blood.
I am afraid
of everything grand.
Even
great love.
It can
change you, if it’s omnipotent.
And
death?
Death is
small.
A prick
with the needle,
a
shallow exhale,
A dying
sigh –
and
an unexpected kindness…
Death, so
minute –
can
save me
from
all overpowering fears.
